IRL Versus Fandom

Last night, I had the pleasure of connecting with Trent Sense for a moment of IRL (in real life) tech talk. I had a great time connecting with him and have a better appreciation for the energy and insight that he brings to mobile (you should check out his video reviews). As we talked, one of the items that kept coming up in the conversation is how we both have had moments where we no longer follow mobile so much like fans. Our perspective of mobile is "does it get out of the way and let me live." In some respects, I think that such a discussion that anyone has about something that they are passionate about is healthy and if handled well, can lead to more fulfilled or content moments.

Seamless Multi-Screened Computing Using Microsoft Technologies

I caught wind of this at istartedsomething earlier today. This is another neat example of the kind of computing experiences that we can have when various screen-based technologies like mobile, tablets, and surface/desktops work together. But, it also speaks to some of the behavior transformations that need to happen in personal and enterprise computing when this kind of technology is introduced. If you will, augment the processes and behaviors that work, nix the extra steps that don’t.

Perspectives of Emergency Mobile Tech Behaviors in the USA

A writing this from VA Beach, VA on Friday, before Hurricane Irene gets in town. I was here for the second funeral for my cousin. What has been really interesting around my family is noticing how some have let previous communication channels govern how they respond to present emergency situations.

Holographic Projection and Concept Mobiles

Now, this is pretty neat. A concept for an iPhone that actually does some neat things – minus the whole device being too thin for the projectors to happen. The keyboard end of things I’d like now. The holographic projector is something I can find uses for. Check it out:

Using Evernote to Post to WordPress

I’ve been wondering for sometime what would be the best way to use Evernote to post to WordPress. I write most of my posts within Evernote before copying them (and doing some touch-up formatting) in WordPress. But I’ve have always wanted to trim that copy-paste step out and then make it just work. I’d been wanting for this to be something I’d find in Evernote Trunk (an add-ons service), yet haven’t seen it. Well, I’ve figured it out, and it was simpler than I thought. And with the update to using rich text elements in the iPad app, it actually makes even more sense for me to be doing it this way.

Turning a Periodic Table into a Digital Chemistry Set

One of the the aspects of high school that I remember with a bit of a smile are my science classes. I have always had a liking to science, if for nothing else but the questions that it would continue to offer. My chemistry class was probably a bit more fun (besides the fact that I was always partnering with a classmate that looked like a nice cross between the short-hair edition of Toni Braxton and Monica) since I got to play with elements that were essentially pretty dangerous. In the past years, I’ve heard from teens that they don’t get as much a chance to play with the dangerous chemicals that we used to play with, and that its generally not as fun since most of their work is analysis of someone else’s experiences rather than logging experiments of their own.

What If Computing is Overestimated?

Driving Down the Road (Procreate) - Share on OviAm in the midst of my own wondering about how long I’ll stay in (mobile) computing. I’m just not sure if I’ll sit tight here. And then I go about reflecting on recent happenings and few articles – or at least the order in which I read them – wondering if computing has actually been overestimated or overhyped and some folks are figuring that out sooner than others.
